the article
Drones are cool. So are submarines. We should put them together and make them even cooler. I can only imagine something along this line of though occurred when someone in the Navy Research Laboratory (NRL) decided to start research on drones capable of being launched from submarines while submerged. Submarines are already able to launch stuff while submerged, although that "stuff" is usually missiles. So it should be simple enough to replace one of those missiles with a drone in a tube, fire it off, and send it on its way to the surface. Once at the surface the tube would engage some motors to stabilize the tube and an electric launch assist system aided the drones in getting airborne.
future implication
With this type of launch system submarines could become a better way of launching UAVs into hostile territories for reconnaissance and to aid soldiers. Submarines could be equipped with a drone control center for drone operators. This decrease in distance of the drones from the operators would allow UAVs to be operated more efficiently and with decreased latency issues due to distance.
