The Article
The article I chose to read about was on a robot called WildCat. WildCat was built by Boston Dynamics. The goal of building WildCat was to create a bot that could run fast on all types of terrain. The end result of this goal is a four legged bot that can run 16 mph on flat terrain using bounding and galloping gaits. Unfortunately there is not much else that is currently known about this bot. However, if it is assumed that this bot will follow in the footsteps of a similar bot built but Boston Dynamics LS3, then it is likely that sometime in the future the bot will be able to carry approximately 50-100 lbs.
Future Implications
A major use of this bot would be military use. Soldiers often must carry backpacks and equipment that weights as much as 100 lbs. The WildCat would be able to carry some of this weight for the soldiers allowing them to reduce the strain they are placed under as well as allow the soldiers to be more portable. The WildCat would also be able to carry equipment a standard squad wouldn't be able to carry and remain mobile.
