The article
The article I chose to read was about a bot built by NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL)that could cling to a relatively flat rock surface upside down with the use of a microspine grippers also developed by JPL. The micro grippers are made up of hundreds of tiny little craws that grip rough surfaces like rock. The bot cannot currently climb due to issues with weight and too few degrees of freedom. However, JPL hopes that sometime in the future that they will be able to have a bot capable of climbing vertically and upside down.
Future implications
The main possibility for both this bot and the technology it uses would be its use in outer space. The microspine grippers would preform wonderfully on asteroids where it could offer a more dependable way to grab the surface. It would also be possible to use this for exploring other planets.
