The Article
In the article I read, I found out that there are spiders in the Morocco that know how to do cartwheels across sand dunes. Note "across" and not "down". Yes, Theses spiders can cartwheel up sand dunes. Naturally, when you find an animal capable of a unique and ingenious way to move you make a robot that can do the same thing. Not much is currently known about the bot beyond it is called Tabbot and its unique form of locomotion.
The future implications
The most obvious implications I can think of would be robots and vehicles that would be far better at traversing deserts and otherwise rough terrain via cartwheels. The other implication is that there is no way sickness bag industry isn't funding this. In all seriousness though, This particular mode of locomotion would also be great for particularly wet or slippery environments due to the increased surface area the bot has to have in contract with the ground.
